Raymond
Johnson
January 2, 1954 – March 21, 2026
In loving memory,
Raymond Johnson – January 2, 1954- March 21, 2026
Raymond Johnson, affectionately known as “Ricky”, was the 8th child born on Saturday, January 2, 1954, to the late Samuel Johnson, Sr. and Evelina Jenkins-Johnson. At the age of 72, he earned his wings and departed this earth after a lengthy battle with cancer on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
Ricky spent his childhood on Wadmalaw Island and graduated from Saint John’s High School in 1972. Shortly after graduating he moved to New York to begin his career path. He held many different jobs during his lifetime that included customer service, truck driver, warehouse worker, and most recently building maintenance. At the time of his passing, he was enjoying the fruits of his labor as a retiree from FedCap Rehabilitation Services in New Jersey.
He often spoke about how his parents instilled in him a passion for God, family and the finer things in life. He had two favorite bible verses, Psalms 91 and John 14:1-4 which he often read. Ricky also loved family, and he was passionate about mentoring his nieces and nephews, with stories of ‘lessons learned’ and ‘don’t make the same mistake’. His swag and infectious sense of humor left you with a lasting impression that you will never forget. And as for the finer things in life, if you guessed a Ford Mustang and the New York Giants, you knew him well. One of his favorite past times was listening to music behind the wheel of his car. If he wasn’t driving, he was detailing his Mustang until it had that new car showroom shine. It had to shine from bumper to bumper, if you couldn’t see the leaves on the trees, or yourself in the reflection, you did do it right.
Our lives have truly been enriched by knowing and experiencing life through his eyes and life experiences. We will miss him, and we are grateful to have him as a brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend. Ricky leaves his memory to be cherished by his siblings Barbara Dixon, Hattie Grant, Norma James, Samuel Johnson, Jr., Gerald (Annette) Johnson, Andrea Weathers, Ronnie L. Johnson and host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
To Ricky from Family
God looked around his garden
And He found an empty place.
And then He looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain,
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered “Peace be thine.”
It broke our hearts to lose you.
But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
