Pasley's Mortuary announces the passing of Mr. James E. Brown Jr, 83, of James Island, South Carolina who answered the summons of our heavenly father to retire from the labors here on earth to his rewards in heaven on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

James Edward Brown Jr. affectionately known as “Junior” by his family and “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, completed his earthly journey on August 29, 2026. He was 83. James was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was raised in a loving home by his late parents Theodora (Whaley) Brown and James E Brown Sr. As a young man he worked in his Aunt Harriet’s store as well as, his uncle Westmore’s store stimulating his love for numbers and analytic mind. After graduating from W. Gresham Meggett High School in 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jane (Grant) and started his family. With the encouragement of his late sister Martha (Whaley) Bracks-Matthews, he moved to Rockland County, NY where he worked for a short time at Rockland Psychiatric Center before starting his career as a Correction Officer at Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, NY. During his time in the state of NY, he was a distinguished member of the Sing Sing Honor Guard and President of the Federal Credit Union. Widely recognized as a man of principle and integrity, he was elected Treasurer of both Saint Charles A.M.E. and Saint Thomas A.M.E. Churches in Rockland County, NY. In his spare time, he was a true sports fanatic, traveling far and wide to cheer on the athletic endeavors and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren in a variety of sports and activities. He was also a huge fan NFL, NBA, and MLB. Preceded in death by his parents James Edward Brown Sr. and Theodora (Whaley) Brown, Daughter Andrea Williams-Jeffcoat, Siblings; Martha Bracks- Matthews, Lillian Brown, Claudia “Doris” Gilliard, and Charles “Charlie” Brown. Survived by his wife, Mary Jane Brown. His siblings: Deacon Joe Nathan Brown (Gloria), Theresa Glover, and Inez Crouch. His children: Barron T Brown (Tara), James E Brown III, Tray Brown (Leona), and Errol Gladden. Grandchildren: Philip Perry, Christopher Brown, Matthew Brown, Errol Gladden Jr, Kimberly Gladden, Ryan McCarthy, Jay Brown, Cameron Brown, and Great-grandchildren; Aria G Brown, Maxwell A Brown and Daisy Gladden. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.
